At Texas Family Birth & Wellness, your prenatal appointments aren't rushed 10-minute check-ins. They're 45–60 minute conversations with a provider who knows your name, your history, and your birth preferences — because it's the same midwife, every single visit.

Kristen Parks, APRN-CNM, will be with you from your first New OB visit through your final postpartum appointment. By the time your birth day arrives, she won't be a stranger walking into the room — she'll be someone you trust completely.

Family members and children are always welcome. We have several play areas for little ones, and we're happy to include children in your appointments so they're prepared to welcome their baby brother or sister when they're born.

That's not how traditional obstetric care works, but it's how midwifery works at TFBW.

A comprehensive first appointment to establish your care, review your health history, confirm your pregnancy, and begin building your birth plan together.

Lab Work

All lab work is included and obtained with your consent. Kristen will have a discussion with you on the research, evidence, and standards of care. You get to say which tests and screenings you want and have that choice supported.

In-House Ultrasounds

Kristen performs first trimester sonograms. Anatomy scans and third trimester sonograms are performed in our birth center by our sonographer, Cari Turner. No driving to a separate imaging center.

Evidence-based education woven into every visit — nutrition, movement, birth preparation, newborn care, and informed consent for every decision.

Headaches, swelling, reduced movement — problem visits are never an extra charge. We want you to call. Peace of mind is part of the package.

Your Visit Schedule

What to expect throughout your pregnancy

Your prenatal care follows an evidence-based schedule designed to monitor your health and your baby's development at every stage.

First Trimester (Weeks 8–12)

New OB visit, confirmation of pregnancy, health history review, first trimester ultrasound, initial lab work panel, and birth plan discussion.

Second Trimester (Weeks 13–27) · Every 4 Weeks

Anatomy ultrasound around 20 weeks, gestational diabetes screening, fundal height measurement, fetal heart tones, and ongoing education and birth planning.

Third Trimester (Weeks 28–36) · Every 2 Weeks

Group B Strep testing, fetal positioning assessment, labor preparation, hospital transfer planning, and finalizing your birth preferences.

Final Weeks (37+) · Weekly

Weekly or twice-a-week visits until your baby's birth. Monitoring you and your baby's health as well as any signs of labor.

Am I a Candidate?

Birth center care is designed for low-risk pregnancies

Most healthy pregnancies are excellent candidates for midwifery-led birth center care. During your free Discovery Consultation, Kristen will review your health history to confirm you meet our clinical criteria.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have no uncontrolled chronic conditions

Prenatal care at TFBW

Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks from 28–36 weeks, then weekly until birth. Every appointment is with Kristen, and visits are 45–60 minutes — 3–5x longer than a typical OB appointment.
Yes. Standard prenatal labs and ultrasounds are included in the all-inclusive birth package. Kristen performs first trimester sonograms, and our sonographer Cari Turner performs all-trimester scans including the anatomy scan and 36-week growth scan — right at our birth center, no separate imaging center required.
You see the same provider every visit — and that same provider attends your birth. Appointments are 45–60 minutes vs. 10–15 minutes with a typical OB. The focus is on relationship, education, and shared decision-making rather than managing a high patient volume.
Kristen monitors you and your baby's health closely throughout your prenatal care. If a complication develops that changes your risk level, she will discuss your options honestly and help coordinate the right level of care for your situation. Problem visits are included at no extra charge — we want you to call any time you have concerns.
