The weeks after birth are just as important as the months before. TFBW stays with you through your 24-hour visit, 2-week check, and 6-week postpartum appointment — all included, all with the same midwife.
Schedule a Free ConsultationThe postpartum period — the first 12 weeks after birth — is one of the most physically and emotionally demanding seasons a family will ever navigate. Yet most obstetric care models send new mothers home with a single 6-week appointment and very little in between.
At Texas Family Birth & Wellness, postpartum care is built into your journey from the beginning. Three dedicated visits, newborn screenings, lactation support, postpartum mental health screening, and 24/7 on-call access — all included in your birth package.
Because the care you receive after your baby arrives matters just as much as the care you received before.
24–48
Hours
Your first postpartum visit happens 24–48 hours after birth, done at your home as long as you're comfortable with that. We assess mom's physical recovery, perform newborn screenings, check baby's weight and feeding, and make sure your family is off to a strong start.
2
Weeks
At two weeks postpartum, we check mom's healing, reassess lactation, screen for postpartum depression and anxiety, and address any concerns that have come up in the first two weeks home with your baby.
6
Weeks
Your comprehensive six-week postpartum visit covers full physical exam, birth control discussion, postpartum mental health assessment, and transition planning for ongoing well-woman care. This is your official clearance appointment.
The newborn metabolic screen tests for 60 rare but treatable conditions. Included in your package.
Newborn hearing screening is set up with our referring audiologist 1–2 weeks after you give birth — a quick, painless test that provides important early information.
CCHD (congenital heart disease) screening uses pulse oximetry to detect heart conditions that may not be visible at birth.
We handle the filing of your baby's birth certificate — one less thing to think about in those first beautiful, exhausting days.
Laura Silvas, RN, IBCLC provides lactation visits 3–5 days postpartum — in-home support for the time when you and baby are both learning how to do breastfeeding together.
Postpartum depression and anxiety screening at every postpartum visit. If you're struggling, Kristen will connect you with the right support — you don't navigate this alone.
